Craig Moore would have asked why the situation regarding Ianis Hagi’s contract at Rangers took so long to solve if he was present at Thursday’s AGM.
The attacker was exiled from Philippe Clement’s squad at the start of the season due to the £3,000 wage rise he was owed if he made one more appearance for the Ibrox outfit but was later brought back into the fold after a compromise was found.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (5 December) about the impact of the Romania international, former Rangers ace Moore shared his thoughts on the situation.
“For me, [Ianis] Hagi showed the quality that he has even months ago I was saying that this is something that the club needs to discuss and sort out because, Hagi, at that time [before he came to an agreement regarding his contract] improved the starting XI,” Moore said.
“Last night he showed that that’s exactly what is needed, the standard of player that he is.
“A question that possibly didn’t come up today in the AGM is why was that a decision that took so long to make, I would’ve asked that question because I don’t believe that was a manager’s decision.
“I think the manager was in a situation where he’s the front man but maybe the push down was from above because of the contract increase if he [Hagi] was playing.”
Ianis Hagi has made himself undroppable for Rangers at the moment
Since the start of the season, all that Hagi has wanted to do was play football for Rangers once again.
The attacker spent last season out on loan in La Liga and while he didn’t quite live up to the standards expected of him, he showed glimpses of a top-quality player still within him.
Over the last couple of weeks at Ibrox, Clement has been somewhat experimenting with his team with Hagi playing a much more prominent role.
He started the 6-0 victory against Kilmarnock on Wednesday and was pivotal in ensuring that the Gers took all three points from the clash.
In fact, his “terrific” cross in the first half of the game helped Clement’s men open the scoring as James Tavernier bagged his first goal of the season.
Of course, the second half turned into a rout, with Rangers netting five past Killie and Hagi getting yet another assist.
If his form continues to this standard for the rest of the season, it’s hard to see how he would be displaced from the team.
