Rangers braced as clubs want to sign ace on a 'Hell of a Lot of Money' at Ibrox today - report

Rangers are braced to receive more interest in an exit deal for Rabbi Matondo on Transfer Deadline Day, Football Scotland reports.

According to the outlet’s website on 30 August there are multiple English Championship clubs after the Welsh international, with Blackburn boss John Eustace having confirmed he was looking.

The Light Blues have already rejected a loan offer from Norwich City, and Philippe Clement has indicated only a big cash bid will be successful before the window shuts [Sky Sports, 24 August].

Todd Cantwell is already on his way to join Blackburn Rovers after a £500,000 transfer was agreed [Daily Record, 29 August], with his medical in progress on the morning the window shuts [Raman Bhardwaj, 30 August].

Matondo’s contract is said to have him on “a hell of a lot of money” for the Scottish Premiership according to Ibrox News pundit Derek Ferguson.

Todd Cantwell already set for Blackburn from Rangers

If Blackburn are taken by the controversial Cantwell then they could well be interested in the far-less divisive Matondo, but whether they can afford both deals remains to be seen.

They have sold star goalscorer Sammie Szmodics to Ipswich for up to £11million this summer [BBC Sport, 15 August] so the finances may be there.

But with so little time before the window closes it will be a balancing act for Clement to decide whether he could risk Matondo leaving against the likelihood that a replacement can be secured.

If his contract is huge for Scotland then it would leave plenty of space to strengthen the squad, but that is room to manoeuvre he needed weeks ago rather than with hours left.

Todd Cantwell
Todd Cantwell is already on his way from Rangers to Blackburn.

Cantwell is on his way out and Scott Wright has completed a permanent move to Birmingham City, so after Matondo showed another flash of his obvious ability in the 6-0 win over Ross County it might be a risk too far to let him leave too.

But the former Schalke man has often blown hot and cold during his time in Glasgow so a massive offer might be too much to ignore.

In other Rangers news, the Gers’ top priority target now wants to sign at Ibrox on Deadline Day.
