Rangers Exclusive: 'Huge' Abdallah Sima update today

Rangers will only be able to agree a deal to sign Abdallah Sima from Brighton if other players are sold, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke explained that Rangers cannot afford any major incoming signings as things stand given their tricky financial position.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that both James Tavernier and Connor Goldson could be sold in an effort to raise funds after attracting interest.

However, Brighton’s £7million asking price will likely prove too steep for Rangers.

The situation has been described by sources with knowledge of Rangers’ situation as a “huge” blow to Philippe Clement and his side given Sima’s impact on loan last season.

Sima spent last season on loan from Brighton and was one of the only new signings to make a real impact, scoring 16 goals in 39 appearances.

Injury issues towards the end of his spell disrupted his time at the club, but both he and Rangers are said to be keen on a return ahead of next season.

Football Insider reported on 1 July that Sima is prepared to push for a return to Ibrox after Brighton agreed deals to sign two new forwards.

However, the financial situation at Ibrox will not permit a deal as things stand.

Brighton had cut their asking price amid the interest from Glasgow, but Rangers will still need to raise funds if they want to match the fee.

Clement has recently come out to explain that every player at Ibrox is up for sale at the right price this summer, other than Jack Butland.

It has been suggested that his comments may have been a ploy to get the board to back him in the transfer market, but the situation at Ibrox looks dire.
