Rangers fans rage as 'horrible' footage of 'leg-breaker' challenge re-analysed

Rangers fans have been left raging at VAR after footage of Dundee United star Emmanuel Adegboyega’s challenge on Connor Barron was re-analysed.

Philippe Clement’s side fought to a 1-0 victory against Dundee United at Tannadice Park thanks to an early goal from Tom Lawrence.

The visitors missed multiple opportunities throughout the game despite creating the better chances and inviting late pressure, but managed to hold on to take all three points.

However, the spotlight was set on referee Don Robertson and VAR official Greg Aitken yet again after a VAR review saw Adegboyega avoid a dismissal for a late challenge.

Shortly before half-time, the United centre-back dived into a late challenge with his studs showing, and was fortunate to have only clipped Barron’s foot, earning a yellow card.

However, fans were left raging at the decision and have insisted he should have seen red for a dangerous challenge despite the lack of major contact.

The defender was later withdrawn at half-time, with Jim Goodwin recognising that his man was at risk of finding himself sent off due to his overzealous tackles.

VAR replays showed minimal contact between the players, with Adegboyega only clipping Barron’s foot, but the reckless nature of the tackle led to a close call.

While Barron came through the incident unscathed, there had been suggestions that the foul could have been a “leg-breaker” if a clean connection was made.

As a result, supporters flocked to social media following the game, labelling the incident “horrible” and a “disgrace”, while insisting it was a “clear red card”.

In other news, Rangers could accept a late James Tavernier offer.
