Rangers in advanced talks to sign record-breaking international - report

Rangers are in advanced talks to sign Sassuolo and Albania attacker Nedim Bajrami, according to Rangers Review.

The Gers news website reported on Wednesday (28 August) that Rangers are keen on bringing in Bajrami, 25, before the transfer window shuts on Friday (30 August). It is understood that the deal is set to be a season-long loan with an option to buy next summer.

Joshua Barrie adds that Todd Cantwell is “edging closer” to a permanent move to Blackburn Rovers, leading to Philippe Clement wanting a new attacking midfielder.

Ianis Hagi is also said to be free to leave Ibrox.

With Cantwell on his way out and Hagi increasingly likely to follow him, it makes sense for Clement to sign a new attacking midfielder.

Bajrami is versatile enough to play on the wings but the Albania international – who broke the European Championships record for the fastest-ever goal by scoring 23 seconds in against Italy this summer – is likely to be someone who plays behind the likes of Cyriel Dessers.

Last season, as Sassuolo were relegated to Serie B, Bajrami played 28 times in the league, scoring two goals and supplying two assists.

His first goal came in a shock win against Inter Milan at the San Siro back in September before he doubled his tally for the season versus Salernitana in April.

But last season saw Bajrami in and out of the Sassuolo side as he ended the campaign with just 15 Serie A starts.

He was left out of his side’s last match in Serie B, too, so it’s hardly been a happy time for the former Empoli winger at Sassuolo and he’s bound to be thrilled to be making this move.

In other Rangers news, Norwich City have submitted a bid for this Ibrox star.
