Rangers and Celtic are both said to be in line for a larger windfall with the SPFL announcing a growth in turnover to £44.3million, according to Glasgow World.

The news outlet shared the impact of it on the two Glasgow clubs after the SPFL announced on 4 October that it was the highest-ever figure in the league’s history.

The turnover has risen by £2.4million (6%) and payments to clubs like Gers and the Hoops have gone up to £33.7million.

Rangers need to make the most of these added revenues

For Gers, this financial boost could be strategically reinvested to fortify their squad, particularly in strengthening areas like defence and midfield.

This influx could also be used to attract higher-calibre talent to Ibrox or to extend the contracts of key players, ensuring stability and competitiveness both domestically and in Europe.

Moreover, Rangers could allocate funds towards infrastructure, enhancing training facilities or stadium improvements, which not only boosts team performance but also increases commercial revenue through better fan engagement.

However, a portion needs to also be set aside for financial stability, given football’s unpredictable nature, possibly reducing reliance on short-term loans or enhancing financial planning for long-term sustainability.

While immediate spending on squad improvement might be appealing, a balanced approach that considers both immediate competition needs and long-term club health would be most beneficial.

The SPFL still has leaps and bounds to grow before it gets the global commercial appeal but these are baby steps.
