Wenham thrilled as Tottenham avoid 'Massive Blow' after behind-the-scenes update

John Wenham is delighted that Simon Davies is set to continue in his role as Tottenham academy director.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes it would have been a “massive blow” if the 44-year-old had left the club.

As reported by Football London (10 July), Davies had been offered the opportunity to become an assistant coach to Craig Bellamy at Wales.

However, despite the offer, he is set to remain with Spurs.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – claims this is very important for the club.

“It would have been a massive blow to lose Davies,” Wenham said.

“Everything I’ve heard about him behind the scenes is really positive. The youth players are improving and signing new contracts.

“Therefore, it is clear that Davies is doing a really good job.

“After losing Chris Davies to Birmingham I think Ange Postecoglou would have been very concerned if we had lost Simon too.

“As a result, it is fantastic to hear that he is committed to staying with the club.”

If anyone needed any evidence of how Davies is doing in his job they would just need to take a look at Spurs’ youth teams.

First and foremost, the Under-21s won the Premier League 2 title last season. Meanwhile, several talented young players – including Mikey Moore – burst onto the scene from the Under-18s.

A lot of these players are committing their futures to the club too. The likes of Will Lankshear and Frankie Day have both recently signed new contracts in North London.

As a result, it is clear to see that Davies is excelling in his role. Therefore, supporters will be thrilled to discover that he is committed to Tottenham.
