Newcastle have just opened negotiations to sign £70m England Euro 2024 star - David Ornstein

Newcastle United have endured an agonisingly slow start to the summer transfer window, but that could soon be about to change.

Eddie Howe has been left a frustrated figure with the Newcastle boss having only seen Lloyd Kelly signed along with a youth prospect and two backup goalkeepers.

“As long as I’m happy in the position that I’m in. As long as I feel supported by the football club and free to work in the way that I want to work, yes. That is the crucial thing,” Howe told the media recently.

And it seems as if the Newcastle boss could be about to get what he has demanded as Paul Mitchell begins to work his magic on Tyneside.

The Toon have now reportedly opened talks with a Premier League club to sign one of their players this summer.

Newcastle open talks for £70m Premier League player

Newcastle are now in Japan on their pre-season tour which has seen them win their opening game 4-0 against Urawa Reds.

However, Howe has travelled to the other side of the world without any major new signings to boast.

The Magpies came into the summer having played through the 2023/24 campaign with some serious injury issues.

Mainly in defence, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles will miss the beginning of the new season with respective long-term injuries.

This summer has certainly been a testing one on Tyneside but there could be a big addition just around the corner.

According to David Ornstein, Newcastle have now opened talks with Crystal Palace over centre-back Marc Guehi.

A new centre-back has been high on Howe’s wishlight this summer and it seems the England international is a player of real interest.

Ornstein says a number of clubs have shown an interest in Guehi this summer but Newcastle are the first to actually make an approach.

Newcastle also showing an interest in Malick Thiaw

Newcastle have been strongly linked with AC MIlan defender Malick Thiaw this summer.

What this could mean for his potential arrival remains to be seen with Guehi boastin a hefty price tag if he is going to be prised away from Selhurst Park.

It is believed Guehi could cost in the region of £70m this summer, so that would certainly put a strain on the Newcastle transfer kitty.

But from what England fans were treated to over the summer, Guehi looks like he could be worth every penny for any interested clubs.
