Ianis Hagi may still be called up for international duty with Romania despite not featuring for Rangers, according to Fanatik.
The Romanian outlet reported on 15 August that the Tricolor manager Mircea Lucescu may include the 25-year-old in his extended squad.
This is despite being sent to train with the reserves by Philippe Clement while trying to force through a move away from Ibrox.
Featuring in the extended squad does not guarantee the midfielder a call-up with his national side wanting him to play more otherwise they “will not count on him”.
Ianis Hagi not guaranteed Romania call-up after Rangers antics
There was hope after a superb EUROs campaign for the former Genk starlet that he could return to Glasgow and become a regular.
That hasn’t been the case and now alongside Todd Cantwell, the Romanian is training away from the first team.
This has been widely criticised by supporters and the media alike but no transfer away from Ibrox appears to be forthcoming.
There is potential that Hagi may change his ideas and look to feature under Clement if his spot in the Romania national set-up is at stake.
His dad is obviously a well-known name and an icon in his country so he won’t want to let down that legacy.
The attacking midfielder would certainly be of use to the Gers who are yet to truly dip their toe into the transfer market with team-changing signings.
It is unclear where the future lies for the 25-year-old but it could well be away from Rangers and the national team if he isn’t careful.
In other Rangers news, Clement to turn to plan B for new signings before August 30.
