Rangers rep in Madrid today for face-to-face talks at transfer summit - report

Rangers will send a representative to Madrid on Monday (5 August) to attend the TransferRoom summit, according to Glasgow World (5 August).

The news outlet reported on its website that Rangers will be one of many clubs at the summit such as Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Juventus, alongside top agencies.

TransferRoom CEO Jonas Ankerson believes the summit allows clubs such as Rangers to conduct direct negotiations and accelerate their transfer business.

He said: “In the summer transfer window time is precious. This is the opportunity for clubs and agents to hold weeks’ worth of transfer talks on a global scale in just one day. Every handshake could seal a game-changing move.

“Clubs and agents will hold direct negotiations through a series of one-to-one meetings and expand their network with exclusive networking opportunities at a pivotal time, so they can get ahead of the competition and get deals done fast.”

Rangers look to accelerate business after opening day stalemate

Philippe Clement’s monumental task of rebuilding his side has been well-documented over the summer and, after the disappointing 0-0 draw with Hearts on the opening day of the Scottish Premiership season, there is still much more work to be done before the Gers can challenge Celtic for the SPFL title this season.

Rangers have been operating on a shoestring budget with outgoings such as Connor Goldson, Kemar Roofe, Borna Barisic and John Lundstram deemed necessary to free up funds.

The lack of finances at the club had brought into question Clement’s future but those rumors were quashed when he signed a new deal to extend his stay at the Ibrox until 2028 (Rangers FC, 2 August).

Still, the club will remain active in the market up until the deadline on 30 August and the TransferRoom summit provides the perfect opportunity for the club to tie up their remaining business sooner rather than later.

Over 800 clubs spanning 100 leagues in 60 different countries will be present at the event, including 500 trusted agencies, so the Gers will learn of available players and be able to broker deals and tout moves for the players on the chopping block at Ibrox.

Rangers have already lost ground in the title race with the draw against Hearts as Celtic began the campaign with a 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock. There is no time to waste for Clement and a successful trip to Madrid could provide the firepower the squad desperately craves.
