Rangers have shown no inclination that Tom Lawrence’s contract will be extended beyond the summer of 2026, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via its website [14 November] that the Welshman’s current deal expires at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, but the Gers could deem him too injury-prone for a new contract.

Having made just 56 appearances since arriving on a free transfer in the summer of 2022, missing several games through injury, and is currently on the sidelines for the next six weeks after a new setback.

Tom Lawrence to leave Rangers after three seasons?

While the Welshman is one of the best attacking players at Philippe Clement’s disposal, he is the next manager who has been unable to utilise him as much as he would like due to his injuries.

Mainly playing in the attacking midfield role, he has notched five goals and two assists in 15 appearances in all competitions so far this season, making him one of the biggest goal threats at Ibrox.

However, Lawrence has missed 66 games for club and country since joining the Gers squad in 2022 [Transfermarkt], so the club will have to make a difficult decision.

In his absence, Clement has deployed Mohamed Diomande in the attacking midfield role, and while it is not a long-term fix, it is not an experiment that has necessarily failed.

Of course, with another 18 months still remaining on his contract, Lawrence still has time to prove that he can stay out of the treatment room, but after his spell in Scotland so far, that does not seem likely.

The 30-year-old has been extremely unlucky when it comes to setbacks, even before moving to Ibrox, but the Gers just cannot afford to continue paying a player who spends so much time on the sidelines.

In other Rangers news, Dave King’s manager plans have been foiled as an Ibrox-linked boss remains safe in his current job.
