Ibrahim Adel’s representatives are braced to start negotiations with Rangers over a late move to Ibrox before the transfer deadline, the Daily Record reports.
According to the paper’s website on 27 August the Light Blues were “wowed” by the Egyptian’s performances at the Paris Olympics this summer but have not yet made an official bid.
They will have to come up with a £5million fee if they want him, and are also going to need to move quickly to get in ahead of promoted Premier League sides Leicester City and Ipswich.
While Adel, 23, wants a “dream” move to the English top flight he reportedly hasn’t ruled out the idea of a “stepping stone” move to Ibrox first.
Rangers could lose Rabbi Matondo after Blackburn interest
Winger is arguably the area that Philippe Clement has had the most success in the current transfer window, after a loan-to-buy deal brought Oscar Cortes back to Glasgow and Vaclav Cerny was secured on loan.
So if there is any budget in the final dew days of the window it might be better directed elsewhere such as striker or central midfield, while a centre-back is expected to arrive to replace Ben Davies [Rangers Review, 27 August].
However, Colombian youngster Cortes picked up an unfortunate injury in the opener against Hearts, and Rabbi Matondo has been a transfer target for Blackburn Rovers.
The manager indicated it would take a hefty offer to secure the Welshman after he scored twice in a great performance against Ross County [Sky Sports, 24 August].
Should such a bid land in the Ibrox inbox then it would potentially fund a big-money offer to Pyramids FC for Adel, and necessitate strengthening in the wide areas, with a previous offer rejected already [Kora Plus, 25 August].
But at this stage of the window, in the financial situation Rangers are find themselves and the other work that needs to be done, it wouldn’t a shock to see the Egyptian head to the Premier League instead of the Scottish Premiership.
In other Rangers news, an exit-linked Gers attacker has made a Light Blues transfer decision after an offer came in.
