'Really interested': Fabrizio Romano says people inside Liverpool think £40m target will be truly 'fantastic'

Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest on one player who has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.

The Arne Slot era at Anfield is underway, and the Dutch manager will be planning for his debut season in the Premier League.

Liverpool have a very good squad, but there is room for improvement. The Reds are expected to be active in this summer transfer window, and they have been linked with quite a few players.

A new defender is likely to be on the agenda, and Romano has shared the latest on one player Liverpool are ‘really interested’ in.

Fabrizio Romano shares update on Liverpool target Leny Yoro

Leny Yoro is one of the most talented young defenders in Europe right now.

The Frenchman, still only 18 years old, has made a fantastic name for himself at Lille, and he is attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Manchester United are keen to sign Yoro, while Liverpool also face competition from Real Madrid and PSG for the teenager’s signature.

Yoro will enter the final year of his contract at Lille this summer, which is why he has been heavily linked with a move away from the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

Caught Offside have claimed that Yoro is likely to be available for £40 million because of his contract situation, which makes him very affordable for interested clubs.

Romano has now doubled down on Liverpool’s interest, and he has revealed that the Reds have added Yoro to their shortlist because they believe he will be a ‘fantastic player’ in the coming years.

However, as things stand, everything depends on Real Madrid.

Romano said on Playback: “Liverpool are there, Liverpool are interested in Yoro. Liverpool believe that Yoro will be a fantastic player. So, Liverpool have included Yoro in their shortlist.

“Liverpool are now waiting to see what happens between Yoro and Real Madrid. If Real Madrid will go strong on this one, they have the preference of the player.

“But, if Real Madrid decide against going strong on Yoro, in that case, Liverpool are among clubs really interested in the player. Also, Paris Saint-Germain.”

Yoro could solve huge problem for Liverpool

Liverpool were always going to be in the market for a new centre-back.

Joel Matip will be allowed to leave Anfield at the end of his contract in July, while Ibrahima Konate’s poor form at the end of last season is a concern.

Joe Gomez has mostly been used as a full-back recently, while Jarell Quansah, as impressive as he is, needs time before he can really establish himself as a regular starter.

That leaves Virgil van Dijk, but reports have claimed there is a serious chance that the Liverpool skipper will leave the club in this window.

Even if he stays, Van Dijk will enter the final year of his contract in July, and the fact that he is 32 means Liverpool need to start planning for life after him.

Finding the player who will replace Van Dijk is a huge problem for Liverpool, but they could have a straightforward solution.

Yoro, who is still only 18 and has the potential to become one of the best defenders in the world in the coming years, could become Van Dijk’s successor and solve that issue for Liverpool for the next decade and beyond.
