Everton ace Jarrad Branthwaite’s transfer status sparked confusion on Sky Sports News as Dharmesh Sheth revealed that Manchester United are still interested in signing the 22-year-old.

Branthwaite has been repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford over the past month, but the Toffees’ large asking price appeared to put United off.

However, the Red Devils continue to be credited with an interest in the England international and that speculation does not look to be going away anytime soon.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News on Wednesday (3 July, 5:13pm), Sheth said in the latest update on the subject: “The interest is still there in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.”

That prompted a surprised response from host Vicky Gommersall, who said: “Really? Okay…”

Sheth added: “We understand that Everton don’t want to sell and don’t need to sell, so there’s no need for them to reduce their £75million-plus asking price.”

Everton’s firm rejection of Manchester United’s £35m offer for Branthwaite is a bold statement of their intentions this summer.

United seemed confident they could capitalise on Everton’s financial situation, aiming to secure Branthwaite before June 30.

However, the Toffees’ proactive financial planning has allowed them to stand their ground and dismiss United’s bid without hesitation.

Valuing Branthwaite at £70m reflects Everton’s belief in his potential, likening him to future defensive stalwarts like John Stones.

Director of football Kevin Thelwell and manager Sean Dyche have also shown their savvy by securing other key signings such as Jack Harrison, Tim Iroegbunam and most recently Iliman Ndiaye, while also making strategic sales like Ben Godfrey.

This approach not only strengthens Everton’s squad but also shows their commitment to achieving fair value amidst competitive interest.
