The summer transfer window slammed shut two weeks ago but Arsenal are keeping one eye on the future as they continue to improve under Mikel Arteta.
Mikel Merino, Riccardo Calafiori, Raheem Sterling and Neto came through the door at the Emirates Stadium this summer, while a handful of others moved on to greener pastures.
While they have a strong squad, there has been a bit of chatter around the club that Arsenal lack an X-factor type attacker.
Now, if reports are to be believed, Leroy Sane could well turn out to be the answer to their prayers as they continue to be linked with a move for him.
Arsenal considering bid for Leroy Sane
According to GiveMeSport, Arsenal are preparing to launch a move for the German international, whose contract at Bayern Munich expires next year.
Sane has been asked to take a pay cut to renew his contract at the Allianz Arena and is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League.
The same report states that Newcastle United are also interested in signing the 28-year-old, who will be free to negotiate deals with other clubs after the turn of the year.
Sane was dubbed as ‘incredible’ by Rafael van der Vaart during the international break and talks about his future are likely to dominate the back pages in the coming weeks.
Do Arsenal need Sane?
With Sterling only signing for the club on a one-year loan deal, it’s clear that the Englishman is just a short-term fix.
Sane, on the other hand, could emerge as an intriguing option for Arsenal in 2025. If he doesn’t agree an extension with Bayern, he will leave for free at the end of the current season.
And signing a player of his quality on a free transfer is an opportunity they wouldn’t want to miss out on, although his wages will likely emerge as an issue.
Sane’s arrival would also allow Arsenal to rotate Bukayo Saka as they’d have another left-footed attacker in the squad.
The German international swapped Manchester City for Bayern in the summer of 2020 for £54m but could be on his way to Arsenal – or another club – on a free transfer this summer.
