Report: Arsenal now left furious by announcement ahead of Newcastle clash
????
Arsenal and the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) have not got along too well so far this season.
The Gunners have already received three red cards in just nine Premier League outings in the 2024/25 campaign, with each one causing huge controversy as both Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard were penalised for delaying the restart by kicking the ball away.
For the third, only a yellow card was shown initially, until Jarred Gillett recommended William Saliba receive a red card instead for his foul on Evanilson as the last defender, in Arsenal’s recent 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth.
Now – according to the Mirror – the PGMOL have made another decision which has irked Arsenal.
Arsenal livid as Jarred Gillett placed on VAR duty for Newcastle clash
Arsenal are believed to have been left highly unimpressed after the PGMOL decided to put the aforementioned Gillett on VAR duty for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Newcastle.
It is said that the Gunners are irked by the 37-year-old’s involvement in yet another of their games, having been left unhappy by his officiating in previous fixtures.
What Jarred Gillet has done in other Arsenal matches
Not only did Arsenal disagree with Gillett’s recommendation to send Saliba off against Bournemouth, but there was further controversy when the Australian refereed the 2-0 win over Wolves on the opening day, ignoring Yerson Mosquera putting his hands around the throat of Kai Havertz.
The Wolves No.14 also appeared to strangely poke Gabriel Jesus on the bum, but the referee born on the Gold Coast ignored that incident too, instead booking the Arsenal No.9 for his angry reaction.
Going back even further, Arsenal were upset with Gillett after last season’s 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa at Villa Park, where the Gunners saw a late goal from Havertz disallowed, and decided not to award a penalty for Douglas Luiz’s challenge on Jesus.
Clearly, the north Londoners believe Gillett is against them, as those at the Emirates Stadium are not best pleased by his involvement in yet another of their games this Saturday.
