Report: Awaziem to leave Onyemeachi and Alhassan at Boavista for MLS move

Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem is in advanced talks with Major League Soccer club FC Cincinnati, potentially marking his exit from Boavista FC, Soccernet.ng reports.

The former FC Porto defender was a crucial figure for Boavista during their 2023-24 Liga Portugal campaign, contributing one assist in 24 appearances.

According to reports, FC Cincinnati has expressed keen interest in the Nigerian center-back and is in advanced discussions to secure his services during the summer transfer window.

This move would see Awaziem leave his fellow countrymen, Ibrahim Alhassan and Bruno Onyemeachi, at Estádio do Bessa, ending his long-standing presence in Portuguese football since 2014.

Soccernet.ng previously reported that Boavista FC acquired Nigerian midfielder Alhassan from Belgian club Beerschot VA.

Alhassan, a former Nigeria youth international, signed a two-year contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2025/2026 season.

However, if Awaziem’s proposed move to the MLS materializes, he may not get the opportunity to play alongside the newly signed Alhassan in Boavista’s colors.

This potential transfer could see Awaziem part ways with Boavista, Alhassan, and Onyemeachi, as he embarks on a new chapter in Major League Soccer with FC Cincinnati.

Meanwhile, in Cincinnati, Awaziem could link up with another Nigerian player, Obinna Nwobodo whose contract will expire in 2025.
