FC Midtjylland sign Nigeria-eligible goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri on a five-year deal from Arsenal

Four-time Danish SuperLiga Champions, FC Midtjylland, have secured the services of Nigeria-eligible goalkeeper, Ovie Ejeheri, on a five-year, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 21-year-old became a free agent after his contract with Arsenal expired last season. Although he never played for the team’s senior side, he was a regular for the club’s U-18 and U-21 sides.

During his time at Arsenal, Ejeheri had loan spells with English lower-tier side, Chelmsworth, before moving abroad to join Finland side, SJK Seinäjoki.

After keeping nine clean sheets in 14 games last season, his impressive goal-stopping abilities last season caught Midtjylland’s attention, leading them to hunt for his services and tie him to a long-term deal.

“Midtjylland is a club with big ambitions and one of the biggest clubs in Scandinavia. I really enjoyed my time in Finland last season – both on and off the field – and I see it as a good opportunity to come to Danish football, where I see many similarities, but of course also differences. Now, I am looking forward to working with the whole group and especially talented goalkeepers who are at the club,” the 1.95m tall goalkeeper told the club’s official website.

Additionally, Ejeheri mentioned he’s looking forward to working with former Brentford and Huddersfield goalkeeper, Jonas Lössl.

“Lössl has played in the Premier League and experienced a lot during his career, and I definitely believe that I can learn from his experience. I am looking forward to training with such different types of goalkeepers who possess so much quality and I will do my best to develop as a group,” he concluded.

Ejeheri was born in Greenwich, England, and is eligible to represent England, Nigeria or Uganda. He’s yet to represent any country at any level.
