One Tottenham Hotspur player is closing in on a move away from Spurs.
The North Londoners deserve a lot of praise for the way they have handled their exits this summer. The likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Joe Rodon and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg among others have all been moved on.
That is solid work from Ange Postecoglou, Johan Lange and everyone else involved, but there are still a few more players who need to be sold.
One of them could be on his way out of Tottenham very soon.
Girona closing in on signing Bryan Gil from Tottenham
Bryan Gil’s future has been up in the air for several months.
The Spaniard, branded as a ‘superstar’ by Graham Roberts on X, joined Spurs in a player-plus-cash swap deal from Sevilla back in the summer of 2021. He was viewed as a massive talent at the time, and there was a lot of excitement about him.
However, things just haven’t gone to plan for Gil and Tottenham.
The attacker hasn’t found a place for himself under any manager at the club, and it has been clear for a while that he has no future at Spurs.
Girona have been heavily linked with a move to sign Gil this summer. The Spanish club see him as the perfect replacement for Savinho, who has joined Manchester City.
Sport have now shared the latest on the situation.
The report has revealed that Girona have ‘practically’ tied up the signing of Gil from Tottenham this summer, even though all the terms are yet to be sorted between the clubs.
The report claims that the most viable option now is an initial loan deal with an option to buy in 2025, but other formulas could be considered after further talks with Spurs.
Gil has agreed personal terms with Girona, and if things go to plan, he will be a new Girona player very soon.
Tottenham prove they have learnt from their mistakes
Erik Lamela plus cash for Gil has to be up there with one of Tottenham’s worst deals ever.
The Spaniard just hasn’t delivered since his move to the Premier League, and the fact that none of his managers here have trusted him enough to give him regular opportunities shows that he is not at the level required.
The positive thing for Tottenham fans is that it looks like their side have learnt from their mistakes. Almost every single player Spurs have signed since Postecoglou’s arrival has been brilliant.
Yes, Manor Solomon has had injury issues and the jury is still out on Timo Werner, but Tottenham look so much more like a club with a plan than they did a few years ago.
Supporters should be really pleased with this, and if they can keep it going, there’s every chance Postecoglou will deliver trophies in the near future.
