Wolves boss Gary O’Neil has just two games to save his job after their dismal start to the season, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that upcoming Premier League games against Crystal Palace and Southampton are critical for the 41-year-old.
Sources suggest that while the two draw against Brighton on Saturday (October 26) has relieved some pressure, failure to get results in their next two league games could ‘change the mood’.
O’Neil still has the backing of the changing room with players understanding he has been hamstrung by spending restrictions at the club.
The West Midlands side remain winless after their opening nine league games, sitting in 19th with two draws and seven defeats so far this season.
Next two games pivotal for Gary O’Neil at Wolves
Goals from Rayan Ait Nouri and Matheus Cunha secured a much-needed but unlikely point for Wolves as they were 2-0 down after 87 minutes.
O’Neil’s side are shipping goals, allowing 25 goals in the Premier League alone and conceding two or more in seven consecutive matches across all competitions.
They may have the worst defensive record in the league but unlike Palace and Southampton, Wolves pose an attacking threat.
Wolves have scored 12 goals in the Premier League, double the tally of their next two opponents, who have each managed just six.
