Report: Club now decide to sell 'great player' for £21m with Aston Villa leading the race

Aston Villa are now very well placed to make a ninth signing of the summer transfer window.

Monchi – Director of Football at Villa Park – has spent upwards of £150m on new recruits as the Villans prepare for the UEFA Champions League next season, with the following eight names already settled in the Midlands.

Now, Aston Villa are frontrunners to bring a familiar face back to Villa Park – as his current club place him on the market for £21m…

Roma expected to sell Tammy Abraham as Aston Villa lead race

A story from Corriere dello Sport in Italy now claims that Tammy Abraham will be sold by Roma this summer – and the Italian giants only want €25m (£21m).

That represents a £13m loss on the £34m Roma spent to sign the England international from Chelsea back in August 2021.

It comes after Il Romanista claimed that Aston Villa are frontrunners to sign Abraham this summer.

The Roma No.9 is a well known player at Villa Park, having scored 26 goals in 40 appearances while on loan at Aston Villa back in the 2018/19 campaign, helping the Villans return to the Premier League.

Abraham is still admired by Roma, although the Serie A side need to raise some cash through sales this summer, so the 26-year-old is viewed as a sensible option to sell as he enters the final 24 months of his contract.

England international could replace Jhon Duran

Monchi could actually end up replacing Jhon Duran with Abraham – who Harry Kane called a “great player” – and secure a profit in doing so.

The Colombia international was recently the subject of a £35m bid from West Ham, although Aston Villa want £40m.

Duran is believed to be growing annoyed at Villa Park and wants the transfer.

We expect that £40m deal to eventually materialise, so if Aston Villa then decide to meet Roma’s £21m asking price for Abraham, Monchi could sign a replacement while also netting £19m in profit, which would be tremendous business.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Aston Villa fans could soon witness a change in the striker department.
