Report: Arsenal have made u-turn and now want to sign 'one of the best players in the world'

Arsenal have just returned to the race for one of the best players on the planet.

Mikel Arteta’s side narrowly missed out on the Premier League title last term, finishing just two points adrift of champions Manchester City.

Many thought they came up short due to the lack of a prolific number nine – with Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz not quite making the grade, even though the latter enjoyed a productive end to the campaign.

Now, it has just emerged, that Arsenal have made contact to sign a world class striker on the continent.

Arsenal back in for Victor Osimhen

According to Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal have returned to the race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer.

Osimhen was seemingly close to joining PSG but they appear to be backing away from the deal due to his asking price.

That was the same issue Arsenal experienced earlier in the window as it was claimed they deemed the deal for the Napoli forward as too expensive.

Though, reports in Italy are now suggesting that The Gunners have returned to the table and made contact with the Serie A side.

Osimhen is expected to cost around £85m for any forthcoming suitors.

Victor Osimhen statistics

Osimhen, who is regarded as ‘one of the best players in the world’ per Adriano Del Monte, enjoyed a productive season last term despite injury struggles.

The Nigeria international netted 17 times whilst laying on four assists across 27 starts, which is certainly a commendable return.

It’s understood that his preferred destination remains the Premier League, so there’s a good chance he could end up in North London.

Chelsea are still keeping tabs on his situation.

In other news, 17-year-old Arsenal youngster seriously impressed in 2-1 friendly win over Manchester United.
