Report: Four-time European champions now considering bid for 'outstanding' Arsenal player

Arsenal are likely to be busy on the transfer front in the coming weeks as Edu and Mikel Arteta look to fine-tune their squad.

The Gunners took the Premier League title battle to the final day of the 2023/24 season, showing how far they’ve come in the past few years.

This summer, Arsenal’s job will be to strengthen their squad so they can get their hands on a trophy that has eluded them since 2004.

Outgoings could be on the cards at Arsenal as well as incomings, with a number of players appearing to be surplus to Arteta’s requirements.

Now, one player on the fringes of the Gunners first-team has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Ajax.

Arsenal full-back Nuno Tavares wanted by Ajax

The player in question is Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares, who has spent the last two seasons away on loan.

According to Sky Sports News, the four-time European champions are now considering a move for the Gunners left-back.

Tavares has returned to the Emirates Stadium after spending the 2023/24 campaign at fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

The 24-year-old was also away on loan during the 2022/23 season, plying his trade for French outfit Marseille.

Tavares joined Arsenal from Benfica three years ago for a reported £8million fee, but he has made just 28 appearances in all competitions.

Tavares unlikely to stay at Arsenal

Tavares has certainly shown glimpses of quality at Arsenal and on loan over the past few years.

For instance, Igor Tudor – who managed Tavares at Marseille – sung the player’s praises in 2023.

He said: “Nuno’s still a young player but he has fantastic physical capabilities. He’s got an outstanding ability to run.

“He could play at Real, at Barcelona, at Man City… he still needs to grow and progress, we talk a lot to him.”

However, Tavares simply hasn’t kicked on at Arsenal, and it doesn’t look as though he has a future at N5.

With that in mind, the Gunners will likely be keen on opening talks with Ajax over his signature.
