Report: Man United have just held internal talks over 'world class' player who Tottenham want to sign

Manchester United have made a much brighter start to the summer transfer window than Tottenham Hotspur.

Erik ten Hag‘s side have already brought in some big names which will be sure to bolster their starting XI.

However, Manchester United went in to the summer window with more work to do than Tottenham who finished three places ahead of the Red Devils.

Ange Postecoglou has seen a lot of transactions take place in north London this summer, but the large majority of those have been player departures.

The Australian is looking to add to his front line over the coming weeks and it seems the two clubs share an attacking target this summer.

Manchester United discuss swoop for Tottenham target

Tottenham’s attack has not been strengthened on the side which ended the 2023/24 campaign.

Timo Werner has arrived on another loan deal – this time for the whole season – but that is the only addition to bolster the front line.

As for United, they have put their money where their mouth is under Sir Jim Ratcliffe having brought in Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.

But despite this, it seems United could still be in the market to sign yet another striker this summer.

According to GiveMeSport, United have now held internal talks about a potential move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

It is claimed the Red Devils would be willing to make a move for the ‘world class‘ England international if his price tag was to come below the £40m mark.

This is even despite Ten Hag having Rasmus Hojlund and now Zirkzee to select from his squad.

But Tottenham are still there in their interest in Toney this summer with Thomas Frank admitting Toney could leave Brentford.

Tottenham still in the race for Ivan Toney

The search for a new striker in north London could be dependent on whether Richarlison is sold over the coming weeks.

It has recently been suggested that Spurs are now expecting an offer to arrive from Saudi Arabia for Richarlison who is valued at around £60m.

If the Brazilian is to move on that could make room for Toney who is said to be looking for around £250k-per-week, according to GMS.

However, the Peterborough chairman has recently claimed Toney’s agent has strongly denied these claims that the striker is looking for a really big salary.
