Report: 'Outstanding' Newcastle player's injury taking longer to heal than expected, may be out for weeks yet
Bad news for the Toon ????
Newcastle United were plagued by injury problems last year, and the Magpies are already experiencing something similar this season.
Alexander Isak was forced off on the weekend with a potential eye injury with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles already out with long-term fitness issues, with Lewis Miley also on the treatment table.
Callum Wilson is also out with a back injury, with the England international yet to play for Newcastle this season as the former AFC Bournemouth star continues to struggle with problems regarding staying fit and healthy.
And it might be some time before the Newcastle striker is back in action.
Callum Wilson potentially out until the October international break
According to the Athletic, Wilson could return for Newcastle after the October international break, with the attacker’s ongoing back injury taking longer to heal than first imagined.
With Wilson one of Newcastle’s most reliable sources of goals in recent years, the striker being ruled out for even longer for Eddie Howe’s side is the last thing the Toon manager wanted heading into a busy September schedule.
As per the report, backup striker and summer signing William Osula is not yet trusted by Howe to lead the line for Newcastle, something that could become a big problem for the St. James’ Park side with Wilson and Isak out injured.
And with Wilson likely to be out for some weeks, Newcastle could have a problem on their hands in the attacking department, with the England international a big miss already for the Magpies this season.
Newcastle can survive without Wilson for the time being
With Newcastle sat third in the Premier League after four games, Howe’s side have started the new season in exceptional form, even without a striker like Wilson to rely on for goals.
And with the Magpies starting the season as well as they have, Newcastle can afford to have Wilson out on the sideline for longer, with the striker needing as long as he needs to recover from his latest injury.
Should Isak return for this weekend’s clash against Fulham, Newcastle should be in the clear in the striker position whilst Wilson is out, though the 32-year-old remains a big miss for the Magpies.
