Report: The four names on Manchester City's transfer shortlist to replace Rodri in January

Manchester City suffered a damning blow against Arsenal last month.

During the dramatic 1-1 draw, Rodri was forced off through injury and it has since emerged that he’s out for the season with a rupture to his ACL.

So, Man City are already making plans to replace him during the January transfer window as two names on the shortlist are revealed.

Manchester City interested in Nicolo Barella and Samuele Ricci

According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Pep Guardiola is eager to bring in a placement for Rodri this winter.

Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella and Torino’s Samuelle Ricci are being considered by the Citizens, however, it’s thought bringing in the former would be an extremely difficult deal to do.

Inter consider Barella untouchable and it’d take an offer in excess of £58m to even bring them to the negotiating table.

So it appears Ricci is a much more attainable target for City, especially mid-season.

Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Atalanta’s Ederson are also thought to be on Guardiola’s shortlist.

Man City should consider Adam Wharton

Manchester City should add Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton to their transfer shortlist, too.

Wharton has been a revelation for The Eagles since during from Blackburn Rovers earlier this year and even made England’s Euro 2024 squad.

He’s not had the best start to the season but perhaps that will favour City, as his stock isn’t quite as high meaning he could be available for a more reasonable fee.
