Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign a ‘promising’ defender who is one of the best passers in Europe, according to a recent report.
The transfer window is almost upon and Tottenham are expected to be busy, with a number of outgoing already rumoured.
Though, it seems Ange Postecoglou has identified a target as the North Londoners have been credited with an interest in an exciting young defender.
Tottenham interested in signing Lutsharel Geertruida
According to Algemeen Dagblad, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida.
Liverpool, Newcastle United and West Ham United are also interested in the ‘promising’ 23-year-old, who can operate as a right-back or centre-back.
RB Leipzig came close to securing his signature for £27m last summer but that deal ultimately fell through.
Now, with his contract due to expire next year, Feyenoord need to sell to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
So any forthcoming deal will likely cost much less than the £27m Leipzig were willing to outlay.
Lutsharel Geertruida statistics
According to FBref data, Geertruida is one of the best passers in Europe compared to his positional peers.
The seven-cap Netherlands international ranks in the top one per cent for progressive passes and pass completion, which is remarkable.
Further, he sits in the top 15 per cent for shot-creating actions, amplifying his excellent playmaking ability.
If Tottenham do land his signature, he’d be a shrewd acquisition.
