Report: Tottenham cannot afford to sign 'terrific' striker this summer as his release clause is too high

Tottenham Hotspur are now unlikely to sign one of their targets this summer because he would be too expensive.

Ange Postecoglou has already re-signed Timo Werner on another loan deal, but Spurs are expected to further strengthen their attack once the transfer window opens.

Many feel a new striker is a necessity for Tottenham this summer, and they have been linked with a number of names since the turn of 2024.

Tottenham make decision on signing Dominik Solanke

Dominik Solanke had a fine season for Bournemouth in the 2023/24 campaign.

The Englishman, who was previously at Liverpool and Chelsea, scored 21 goals in all competitions last term, 19 of which came in the Premier League.

Solanke’s performances have earned him a lot of admirers, and a number of clubs have been linked with a move to sign him in this summer’s transfer window.

Arsenal have identified Solanke as an alternative to Benjamin Sesko, while Chelsea have been named as a potential destination as well.

Another club heavily linked with Solanke is Tottenham, but there is a problem now

GiveMeSport have revealed that Tottenham will not be signing the Bournemouth striker this summer because of his extremely expensive £65 million release clause.

The report claims that ‘there is a feeling inside Tottenham that Solanke’s price tag is too high’, which is why a move has not been made.

Solanke, hailed by Tony Cascarino on talkSPORT (8/6/2024, 7:43 am) for having a ‘terrific‘ season, signed a new contract at Bournemouth in the summer of 2023, and that deal does not expire until 2027.

That puts the Cherries in a really strong position in potential transfer negotiations.

Tottenham can sign another Premier League striker who’s better than Solanke

£65 million for Solanke is a lot of money even though he had a really good season in the Premier League in the 2023/24 campaign.

Tottenham are right to look elsewhere and there are several better options for the North Londoners.

Ivan Toney has been linked with Spurs and he will enter the final year of his contract in July. He offers everything that Solanke does and is arguably better than the Bournemouth man.

Gareth Southgate picked Toney over Solanke in his England squad for Euro 2024, which suggests that he too thinks the Brentford star is the better striker.

Reports have claimed that Tottenham are ready to make a £40 million bid to sign Toney this summer, and we think he would be a great signing for Spurs.
