Report: What Mohamed Salah is said to have 'his sights set on' amid Liverpool uncertainty

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is currently the subject of speculation over his future, due to his Anfield contract expiring next summer.

The Liverpool star has etched his name in Anfield folklore in wake of a stellar Reds career, complete with a multitude of trophies and over 200 club goals.

However, with Salah’s contract expiring at the end of this season, plus his comments after the 3-0 win at Manchester United, it has made some Liverpool fans worried.

As per the Liverpool Echo, Salah said: “It is my last year at the club”. However, he then changed “it is” to “it could”, when talking about whether it would be his last game at Old Trafford.

Within the same breath, the Anfield icon added: “The club have not talked to me yet.”

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool and Salah will have discussions over his future in the next ‘days, weeks, months.’

And now, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, the signs are positive with regards to the 32-year-old remaining at Anfield past next summer.

Alex Crook thinks Mohamed Salah has sights on Ian Rush record

Crook believes Salah does indeed want to stay, partly because his family is settled in the area, and partly because he’s got his sights set on Ian Rush’s club goalscoring record.

“Yeah, I think he does (want to stay),” said Crook. “I think his family are settled in the area, from what I am told.

“And I think he has got his sights set on Ian Rush’s record as Liverpool’s all-time leading goalscorer.”

What is Ian Rush’s Liverpool goalscoring record?

Rush, who played for Liverpool from 1980 to 1987 and from 1988 to 1996, sits top of the standings with 339 goals in 653 matches.

Meanwhile, Salah is in third place after managing 214 strikes in 352 appearances since joining the Reds from Roma in 2017.
