Revealed: Liverpool plot Gordon alternative as they look to blow Barcelona away

Liverpool have named Nico Williams as one potential alternative if the club is unable to sign Anthony Gordon this summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Premier League giants have two main alternatives to Gordon this summer.

Sources say that the Liverpool recruitment team has a long list of targets, but Williams is someone Liverpool have admired.

However, they’re not the only club interested in the Spain international, and reports in his home country suggest he would prefer a move to Barcelona.

According to sources, the La Liga club may not be able to afford a deal for Williams, which could provide an opening for Liverpool.

Williams does have a release clause at Athletic Bilbao, but Football Insider reported that Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are also monitoring the winger.

Yohan Bakayoko is another long-term target of Liverpool’s, and he would be seen as a cheaper alternative to Gordon.

Liverpool are considering a second bid for Gordon this summer, but Football Insider revealed that Newcastle United want to make a significant profit on the England international.

The north east giants would accept a £75-80million offer for the winger, which would rise to £100million with add-ons.

However, Cody Gapko’s performances in the Euros as a left winger have proven that the Reds might not need to purchase a winger at all.

Football Insider reported that new Liverpool boss Arne Slot plans to use Gakpo as a striker in his first season in charge.

Gapko has scored three goals and created an assist so far from his preferred position of left wing in the Euros, showcasing what he could offer the Reds.
