Revealed: Man City plan to beat Liverpool to 26 G/A signing

Man United and Man City are keen on signing Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Jeremie Frimpong, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old caught the attention of major European teams after his impressive performances last season, during which he scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions.

Football Insider previously revealed that Frimpong is also on Liverpool’s radar, as the club are interested in signing him to potentially move Trent Alexander-Arnold into midfield.

Frimpong is versatile enough to play as a right back, wing back, or right midfielder, which provides plenty of flexibility to any coach.

However, Liverpool have “no urgency” when it comes to signing the Netherlands international due to the emergence of Conor Bradley.

Man United will have to battle their rivals to sign Jeremie Frimpong

The 23-year-old had a £35million release clause during the summer transfer window, but that wasn’t activated.

Frimpong has continued his momentum from last season into the current campaign, scoring once and providing four assists in seven appearances across all competitions.

However, Man United will need to beat out two of their biggest rivals if they want to land his signature.

Should Frimpong leave the Bundesliga side then Celtic will earn 30% of the profit due to a clause they put in the deal when they sold him to Bayer Leverkusen.

Frimpong won the domestic treble with the Scottish giants in the 2019-20 campaign and made 51 appearances for the club in total.
