Richard Keys has suggested Sean Dyche deserves to be “applauded” after the draw between Everton and Fulham.
The Toffees came from behind to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League with a draw 1-1 with Marco Silva’s side at Goodison Park on Saturday (26 October) thanks to a late goal from Beto.
While the Blues were second best for large periods of the game on Merseyside, beIN Sports broadcaster Keys has been quick to laud Dyche for switching things up in the second half to salvage a valuable point.
Writing in his personal blog on Monday (28 October) he said: “Everton battled well for a point as well.
“Sean Dyche should be applauded for changing things around and getting something from the game v Fulham.”
Will Everton sack Sean Dyche at Goodison Park?
Dyche has come in for more of his fair share of criticism already this season having made several contentious decisions when it comes to team selection and his in-game management.
The former Burnley boss was slammed in the wake of the Blues’ defeat to Bournemouth earlier this term when he watched his side slip to a 3-2 defeat at Goodison Park having led until the closing exchanges.
But the Everton boss deserves credit this time around. While the substitutions could have been made earlier to give the Toffees a chance to claim all three points, he recognised things weren’t working and switched it up to salvage a point.
That draw could be incredibly important in the story of the Blues’ season as they look to put a genuine gap between themselves and the relegation zone over the coming months.
Dyche is effectively on trial between now and the end of the season as he looks to show prospective new Everton owners, the Friedkin Group, that he is the right man to lead this team into a new era at Bramley Moore Dock.
Although it still seems unlikely he will be handed a new contract by the prospective new owners [BBC Sport, 21 October] these sorts of tactical decisions should only help his case in the coming months.
