Liverpool have made it six wins out of six in the Champions League to stake a claim as favourites to win the competition.
The Reds have been flying high in both the Premier League and the Champions League, with Arne Slot hitting the ground running since taking the reins.
Liverpool, who were unable to play against Everton last Saturday due to adverse weather conditions, ran out 1-0 winners in their trip to Girona on Tuesday night.
The reds were given a tough time against Girona in the early stages of the game, but did enough to win thanks to a Mohamed Salah penalty in the second half.
Meanwhile, Alisson Becker delivered a critically acclaimed display as he recorded a clean sheet on his return to action from a hamstring injury.
Liverpool’s perfect record in Europe’s premier club competition has led to discussions over them being the favourites to go all the way.
Rio Ferdinand, speaking on TNT Sports after the game, gave his verdict when asked whether the Reds are indeed the favourites to win the Champions League.
Rio Ferdinand admits Liverpool are currently Champions League favourites but calls for patience
Ferdinand, who played for Liverpool’s arch-enemies Manchester United during his career, admitted that the Reds “form-wise right now” the favourites.
However, he suggested that it’s too early now and that things could be “very different” come the business end of the campaign.
When asked whether Liverpool are favourites, Ferdinand replied: “Form-wise right now, yes, Liverpool have to be favourites but nothing is handed out at this stage.
“Form-wise, come March and April time it could be very different to now. You have to be a bit patient.”
Ferdinand went on to say the Reds “definitely” have what it takes to be “very successful” this season, but once again stressed that they need to last the distance.
“Liverpool definitely have the make up and all the markings of a team that can be very successful this season,” said the former Man United defender.
“They just need to ensure they have the form physically and mentally at the back end of the season.”
