Chris Sutton did not miss the opportunity to take a swipe at Rangers after their 2-1 Scottish Premiership defeat to Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Wednesday 30 October.
Analysing the game at half-time, Sutton said that the Dons have a clear playing style, unlike Philippe Clement’s side.
The pundit, who takes little time to take digs at the Light Blues whenever he can, also criticised the team’s defending in the lead-up to Nicky Devlin’s first-half goal for the hosts.
“Aberdeen actually have a style, we don’t quite know what Rangers are”, Sutton said live on Sky Sports (8:56pm, 30 October).
“They deserve the lead, it’s really passive defending. First, there has to be a greater determination to stop the cross.
“Then, [John] Souttar was on his heels and Devlin, tidy finish, third of the season.”
Straight fter the full-time whistle, Sutton took to his personal X account to say: “Incredible night and atmosphere at Pittodrie. Well played Aberdeen and Jimmy Thelin.
“Where do Rangers and big Phil go from here? Rangers are rotten…”
Chris Sutton right about Rangers defending v Aberdeen
Rangers’ playing style – or the lack of it – under Clement has come under a lot of criticism and it is not a surprise that Sutton brought that up live on Sky Sports.
There is also not much that can be said about his criticism of the defending in the lead-up to Devlin’s goal as several players were indeed at fault.
Nicolas Raskin did not do enough to prevent Jack MacKenzie from delivering a cross into the box, while Nedim Bajrami left Devlin unmarked in the box, allowing him all the time to find the back of the net.
Neraysho Kasanwirjo also had no idea of the looming threat of Devlin behind him, while Souttar was caught on his heels as Sutton said.
It is worth noting that the Gers’ playing style also drew criticism from Kris Boyd on Sky Sports at half-time, with the former forward dubbing the team unbelievably bad.
In other Rangers news, the Light Blues could miss out on the signing of Ryan Kent.
