Ryan Gravenberch has won over Paul Robinson with his impressive transformation at Liverpool this season.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson admitted he wasn’t expecting to see “the way that he stepped up” this season.

The 22-year-old has been given the complete backing of Arne Slot to work as the team’s anchorman, despite Liverpool attempting to sign Martin Zubimendi during the summer transfer window.

Football Insider revealed that the Liverpool manager opted to put his full trust in the Netherlands international to play in the number six role, which has led to him playing every single minute in the Premier League this season.

However, Football Insider also reported that Slot has been aiming to strengthen this position since he arrived at the club and are still in the market for a new signing in this area.

“That’s a position that they looked at in the summer window,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“When you look at way that Gravenberch played, the way that he stepped up in that deeper role, it’s maybe something that people, myself included, weren’t expecting to see, weren’t expecting to play in that role.

“It’s clearly an area that they’ve identified and [Nicolo] Barella is a top player.

“You look at his quality, you look at his vision from a deep line midfield role, and he would because he’d have all the armoury in front of him, the firepower that he’s got and his ability on a football pitch would certainly add to the quality that Liverpool have got with his vision.

“Not just his disruption of play to be able to breakdown play but also with his forward passing as well.

“He’d be a great signing for anyone who gets him, Liverpool won’t be the only ones at the table if he becomes available.”
