Saudi club now set to sign player Tottenham sold for £26m after trying to sign Leandro Trossard from Arsenal

Things seem to move fast in Saudi Arabia when it comes to transfers and after trying to sign Leandro Trossard, Al-Ittihad have now made a move for an ex-Tottenham man.

Al-Ittihad came in with a bid for Trossard earlier today that was quickly rebuffed by the Gunners.

Indeed, further reports suggested that the offer from Saudi for Trossard was an initial loan deal, with a view to buy in the future.

Of course, Arsenal were having none of it and it seems the Saudi outfit have got the message pretty quickly as they’ve now made a move to sign a former Tottenham winger.

Al-Ittihad to sign Steven Bergwijn after missing out on Leandro Trossard

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, who has become a bit of a specialist in all things Saudi Pro League related, Al-Ittihad are close landing former Spurs man Steven Bergwijn.

Taking to X to update the situation on Bergwijn and a move to the Middle-East, Jacobs has said that the Dutchman has now passed a medical to sign for Al-Ittihad.

Yet again, Bergwijn finds himself moving on for big money in his career.

Tottenham paid £27m initially to sign him while they then sold him for a cool £26m back in 2022.

It means the Dutch winger has amassed transfer fees exceeding £70m since moving to the Premier League form PSV initially back in 2020.

Bergwijn was linked with a move to Leicester before the Saudi interest came about this summer.

Bergwijn will be a star in Saudi Arabia

Steven Bergwijn just never did it for Tottenham and it’s not a massive surprise really to see him wind up in the Saudi Pro League a few years later.

In fairness to him, he has done quite well since being back in Holland and scored 13 goals last season to build on the 16 he got back in 22/23 campaign.

Still, he’s never hit the heights many expected and a move to Saudi – when he is still only 26 – makes sense for him on a personal level.

Bergwijn will go and earn a fortune for a few years and then still be young enough to get a move back to a good European side if he wishes.

Tottenham fans, then, will be intrigued as to how he does.
