Manchester City have already sold Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid in a deal that could be worth up to €95m if all of the variables are fulfilled. Now Matheus Nunes could be set to follow him to the Metropolitano.
City spent €62m on Nunes from Wolves a year ago, but he was used sparingly by Pep Guardiola, and made just 16 starts. Now with Ilkay Gundogan back at the club, he could look at an exit before the end of the transfer window. As per The Athletic, Atletico are looking into a potential loan deal for Nunes.
Journalist: “Who has impressed you the most from the current Atlético Madrid squad?”
Clément Lenglet: “From what I’ve seen yesterday, Barrios had a spectacular game, in line with his performance at the Olympics. It’s a pleasure for the club because he’s one of our own.” pic.twitter.com/57bxAzbHGA

It would be something of a surprise if Atletico moved for another midfielder, and Nunes would have his work cut out getting game time at the Metropolitano too. Conor Gallagher recently arrived to compete with Rodrigo de Paul, Koke Resurreccion, Pablo Barrios and Marcos Llorente. Meanwhile further forward, Antoine Griezmann, Angel Correa, Rodrigo Riquelme and Alvarez can occupy positions off the striker. It does look as if Arthur Vermeeren will exit the club before the end of the week though.
