Craig Moore believes that Rangers need new owners in charge and stop-gap investment will not do the trick.
Recently, the club revealed an operating loss of £17.2million for the financial year that passed.
It’s been reported by the Daily Record on 14 November that operating costs at the club remain as high as £110million.
Moore told Go Radio: “Is investment just going to be a stop-gap to do something in January, what I would like to see – I don’t know who is supportive of this in terms of the fans, or what the feelings of the fans is towards this – but I think it needs new ownership to really change things and put new infrastructure in place to go and attack it in a serious manner.
“It’s almost as if when you are on top, you are being hunted. Rangers are chasing but you can be blinded by that day to day battle.
“This is now a serious matter if you don’t get somebody that has that vision of what Rangers will look like in 15 or 20 years. This needs serious investment – not a window.”
Rangers need new owners to sort out the current mess at the club
It’s clear for everyone to see that the club’s financial health is not in the best place.
A significant operating loss despite high revenue suggests deeper structural issues that require more than just periodic cash infusions.
New ownership could certainly address this with a fresh strategy and fans are likely to be on board with this too.
The footballing landscape has become increasingly competitive, with clubs needing not just to compete season by season but to build for future success through sustainable practices.
Moore’s call for a long-term vision aligns with the need to develop youth academies, improve facilities and perhaps adopt a more global brand strategy.
New owners could also bring the spark that’s been lacking for years and make the club a force to be reckoned with again.
In other Rangers news, the injury sustained by a first-team player is worse than first expected and it will keep out until mid December.
