'Silly...' - American analyst hits back at Michael Dell takeover reports at Everton

Everton potentially being taken over by Michael Dell has been called “silly” by an American analyst, who reminded fans of his other involvement in English football.

Ryan Williams posted on X pouring water on reports linking Dell’s family company MSD Partners with a personal bid to buy the Toffees, in tandem with fans Andy Bell and George Downing.

Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol had previously said that MSD, worth an eye-watering £94.2billion, were set to give Bell and Downing their full backing as Everton seek new investors this summer [X].

As highlighted by Williams, Dell is no stranger to English football, having provided debt-related financial support to clubs including Burnley, Derby, Southampton, Sunderland and West Brom.

Who will become Everton’s new owners?

Bell and Downing have been in talks to complete a buyout of the club for several months now, with The Esk reporting that they will table a bid regardless of potential backing from MSD.

If the Dell family throwing their support behind Bell and Downing does end up coming to fruition, it could put the duo in the driving seat as favourites to succeed Farhad Moshiri as majority shareholders.

That’s aided by recent developments with Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor, who has confirmed to Goodison News that he is not a front-runner to buy Everton – and never was.

After 777 Partners’ extended deadline to make clear proof of their funding to meet the Premier League’s owners and directors’ tests passed on 31 May, Moshiri can now open discussions over new bids with other third parties [Tariq Panja].

Bell and Downing buying out Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent shareholding would certainly make for the most romantic deal from a fans’ perspective – particularly ahead of their final season at Goodison Park – but this takeover, or any for that matter, still has plenty of race left to run.

In other Everton news, Bryan King has slammed Farhad Moshiri after a “ridiculous” 777 Partners takeover twist.
