Dan Friedkin must learn from past mistakes at both Everton and Roma when he takes the reins at Goodison Park, Simon Jordan has said.
Speaking on talkSPORT (5 November, 11:24), Jordan said that Friedkin has “serious” money behind him and believes the takeover is already a done deal.
Jordan flagged up Friedkin’s patchy track record at Roma, as well as Farhad Moshiri having money behind him without guaranteeing success.
He said: “The bottom line is, these guys, they have serious money – but so did Moshiri, or Usmanov or whoever’s money it was.
“It’s not about what money you’ve got, it’s about how you deploy it, and it’ll be interesting to see what they do with Everton because it hasn’t been an unprecedented success at Roma; it’s been a battle and a challenge for them.
“But I think it’s a done deal, I think Friedkin will own Everton.”
Dan Friedkin needs to hit the ground running at Everton
Before the end of 2024, Friedkin is expected to finally replace Moshiri as the majority shareholder, bringing the long and drawn-out takeover saga to the best possible end, given the circumstances.
With the American possibly ready to sell 30 per cent of his shares in Roma [Daniele Fisichella, 5 November], it’s clear the Friedkins are committed to Everton for the long haul, having stepped in at an opportune time.
The 2024/25 season is the club’s 133rd and last at Goodison Park, and once they relocate to Bramley-Moore Dock on Liverpool’s waterfront, their financial landscape is expected to be transformed.
Moving to a revenue-generating venue in football’s richest league is undoubtedly an attractive proposition, yet Friedkin has already stepped in to pay off a portion of the significant debts.
The proof will be in the pudding once Friedkin does take charge, and with this season’s primary objective being to stay in the Premier League, he’ll need to prove that he made the right decision from day one.
