Sky Sports: Another Rangers ace agrees terms on permanent 6-figure exit to England

Scott Wright has agreed personal terms on a deal to leave Rangers permanently for Birmingham City, Sky Sports report.

According to the outlet’s website on 29 August the deal is going to be worth around £300,000 but still required a medical to be completed and paperwork to be signed.

Ben Davies has already moved to St. Andrew’s this summer after he made a season-long loan move to the League One club, with a replacement expected before the deadline [The Rangers Review, 27 August].

Wright’s exit comes after Todd Cantwell also agreed a six-figure move to England, with a £600,000 exit to Blackburn set to go ahead [Daily Record, 29 August].

Todd Cantwell to leave Rangers for Blackburn Rovers

Wright’s exit is probably at least a year overdue, despite Philippe Clement surprisingly deciding to start the season with him regularly in the XI.

The former Aberdeen attacker looked to be on the brink of a move to Pendikspor in Turkey last summer before the deal fell through.

And aside from a sparkling performance in defeat to Benfica on 14 March as the Gers crashed out of the Europa League there wasn’t much to his final season at the club that would have convinced he had a long-term future.

With Davies’ loan and now both Wright and Cantwell heading out on permanent exits there is finally some space being made in the squad and on the wage bill, but it has come so late in the window it remains to be seen whether incoming deals can be secured to replace them.

Scott Wright has agreed to leave Rangers for Birmingham City.

And the minimal transfer fees will be another disappointment to the fanbase when the financial gap to Celtic continues to grow, and exits from Parkhead seem to regularly exceed those from Ibrox by multiples.

And after last year’s late turnaround that saw Wright back in Glasgow it will be impossible to be certain of this deal until the medical is passed and he has been confirmed in England’s second city.

In other Rangers news, a public dispute at Ibrox could now threaten late signings as agents will take notice.
