Sky Sports Italy: Everton takeover race to be resolved in weeks amid 'Very Serious' offer

Dan Friedkin’s intentions after his entry into the race to buy Everton are seen as “very serious”, according to Sky Sports Italy.

The outlet reported via their website on 8 June that the Roma chief has joined the likes of Andy Bell and George Downing, who are backed by Michael Dell, and has no plans to rid himself of any holding in the Serie A club.

Now, according to Sky in Italy the race should be solved within a matter of weeks, with the explosion if new interested parties following previous preferred bidders 777 Partners’ exclusivity agreement with Farhad Moshiri expiring on 31 May.

John Textor has confirmed to Goodison News that he never was a front-runner to buy Everton and has now reportedly withdrawn from the race [Bloomberg, 7 June].

Farhad Moshiri has Everton sale options on the table

The current picture looks to be exactly what Everton fans would have hoped for once the ill-fated 777 bid finally came to an end.

Whereas the Miami-based firm appeared for so long to represent the only serious offer but also a potentially risky one given their ownership of other sports teams it finally looks like there are multiple options which, at least on paper, look more realistic.

As Evertonians who have already been involved in lending money to the club during the recent hard times it would be no surprise if the Bell and Downing option is a popular one with supporters, especially if it is backed by the enormous finances of Dell behind them.

According to the Daily Mail (8 June) it is the MSD involvement which has convinced Moshiri the are a serious option and that the takeover situation could be solved ahead of the new Premier League season.

Fellow American Friedkin, as owner and president at Roma, has top-level experience in running a football club, and while the Italian side might not have been competing at the very top in Serie A during his tenure they did win a European trophy with Jose Mourinho in charge which is a far cry from, for example, the chaos at other clubs in the 777 stable [Guardian, 10 May].

Financial pressures on Everton might not be quite so tight with millions coming in during the summer but that situation won’t last if a solution on the takeover isn’t pushed forward so major developments in a matter of weeks would be a welcome development after months of stasis as the previous bid floundered.

In other Everton news, a “key ambition” for Sean Dyche this summer is to do a deal for an attacker who is available to sign.
