Sky Sports pundit shares what Jorginho privately told him about Federico Chiesa after he joined Liverpool

Federico Chiesa was a surprise signing by Liverpool late in the summer transfer window as he joined the club from Juventus.

The Italy international signed a four-year deal at Anfield after the two clubs agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £13m including add-ons.

Chiesa confirmed that Juventus didn’t offer him a new contract, due to which the possibility of moving on to greener pastures appealed to him.

He enjoyed his first training session with Liverpool yesterday and it remains to be seen if he features against Manchester United tomorrow.

Steve Nicol said earlier this week that Chiesa’s signing was a no-brainer for Liverpool.

And now, Jamie Redknapp has delivered his verdict on the signing including a glowing endorsement from Arsenal midfielder Jorginho.

Redknapp reveals what Jorginho feels about Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa signing

The former Liverpool midfielder feels Chiesa can become a huge hit at Anfield if he manages to stay fit, having struggled with a string of injuries in recent seasons.

“As a Liverpool fan, I am delighted with this bit of business!” Redknapp said on Sky Sports News.

Redknapp also admitted that Jorginho gave a very good account of the 26-year-old, having played alongside him for the Italy national team.

He continued: “It’s a difficult one because he obviously had a lot of injuries. I think back to the Euros when they won it, Italy. I was filming a League of Their Own [episode] and spoke to Jorginho about him when he was on the show a couple of days ago.

“I asked what he thought of him and he said he carried our Italian side for so long, he was amazing.

“He has obviously had injuries, but if Liverpool can get him back to fitness and make sure they manage his minutes carefully, they have got an absolute bargain and a star. He has got amazing pace.”

Italy won the European championships in 2021, with both Jorginho and Chiesa playing starring roles under Roberto Mancini.

The Arsenal midfielder, who was then at Chelsea, was one of the most in-form players in world football during that period as he dictated proceedings in the centre of the park.

Chiesa, on the other hand, was the leader of Italy’s attack and scored two goals – including one in the semi-final against Spain – to spearhead his country to continental kingship.

Both players were officially named in the Euro 2020 Team of the Tournament, with Jorginho finishing third in the 2021 Ballon d’Or standings after also winning the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea.

Chiesa signing could prove to be a bargain for Liverpool

Chiesa played 70 games in all competitions for Juventus over the last two seasons, indicating that his injury woes are well past him.

Capable of playing anywhere in attack, Chiesa is predominantly a right winger and his arrival could allow Liverpool to rotate Mohamed Salah, who plays pretty much every game when fully fit.

At the age of 26, the Italian has the best part of his career ahead of him and could turn out to become one of the shrewdest signings of the summer if he manages to stay fit.
