Sky Sports: Rangers set to seal yet another signing even before Connor Barron

Liam Kelly is expected to become the fourth Rangers signing of the summer, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reported on their website late on 18 June that the out-of-contract Motherwell keeper is “likely” to be added next, after Jefte, Oscar Cortes and Clinton Nsiala.

Connor Barron is also now close to joining after leaving Aberdeen on a free transfer as Philippe Clement’s transfer business looks set to take another leap forward.

The Scottish midfielder had offers in England and Italy but now looks to be on his way to Ibrox.

Rangers about to land Aberdeen and Motherwell men

The transfer window may have only just opened but after a quick start to the summer it looked like the activity had hit a bit of a lull for the Light Blues as talks and interest seemingly became bogged down.

So nearing the expected move to add Liam Kelly as the presumed replacement for Robby McCrorie, who is expected to leave after rejecting a contract extension, is a boost.

He had signed a small extension to his Fir Park contract to secure his former club a UEFA payment for involvement in the Euros with Scotland [Daily Record, 8 June] but appears to be next in at Ibrox.

But apparently winning the race to snap up Barron is even more so, as he was sought after by various clubs, with the likes of Middlesbrough and Swansea interested [Scottish Sun, 12 June].

The dual departures of John Lundstram, who is already set to sign for Trabzonspor [Scottish Sun, 18 June], and Ryan Jack from Clement’s midfield makes restocking there a priority, and in Barron the club would get a talented player who has experience in the Scottish Premiership for a minimal fee.

Robby McCrorie is expected to leave Rangers this summer after rejecting a contract extension.

Unless Rangers and Aberdeen can agree a fee the Dons will have to wait on a tribunal decision to find out how much it is, with the roughly £500,000 fee they would have been due if he had chosen to go abroad apparently missed out on.

In other Rangers news, the club are set to take action on a major Ibrox issue which has infuriated the manager.
