Rangers want forward competing at Euro 2024, tried for him last year - report

Rangers are interested in signing RB Salzburg forward Petar Ratkov, according to GiveMeSport.

Ben Jacobs reported [18 June] that the Gers are among those looking to carve out a potential move for the 20-year-old.

The Light Blues also held an interest in Ratkov last summer whilst he was at Serbian side TSC and tried to sign him, only for Salzburg to land his services in a £4million transfer.

Having progressed well and scored five times in 33 appearances in Austria, the youngster made his full international debut for Serbia and is currently away at Euro 2024, where he was an unused substitute against England on Sunday (16 June).

Rangers face competition for Petar Ratkov signing

Having already been the subject of a multi-million-pound switch last summer, Ratkov would cost Rangers a considerable fee.

With sales expected and the club needing to give this summer window all their might, it could well transpire that the Gers are willing to cough up for the centre-forward, who may command an even higher sum should he go on to appear at the Euros and be a key man for Serbia.

Where it becomes even trickier for Clement and his recruitment staff is the competition, and the nature of it.

RB Leipzig have been credited with an interest, with Red Bull sister club Salzburg likely to give the German side first refusal for obvious reasons.

Leeds United were also reported by Jacobs to have Ratkov on their radar, but those hopes died when they failed to earn promotion to the English Premier League.

This potential transfer could either move quickly after the Euros, or be a non-starter if Leipzig hold a genuine interest.

In other Rangers news, the club may have found the player to succeed James Tavernier if the captain leaves Ibrox.
