Tottenham Hotspur are back in business.
Many of Spurs’ key players are back in training for pre-season, and over the weekend, Tottenham played a secret behind-closed-doors friendly against Cambridge United.
The game finished up 7-2 in an absolute goalfest, and while there’s not too much you can take away from an exhibition game like this, there are some interesting stories to come out of this match.
Indeed, speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold has shared some insight into the Cambridge game, and he says that he’s been told Heung-Min Son was on top of his game in this friendly.
Heung-Min Son looking sharp
Gold shared what he’d been told about the £22m man on Tottenham’s first outing of the season.
“That was one thing I was told, a couple of people said that Sonny looked amazing. Apparently he looked so sharp like he hadn’t even been away. So that’s good news, that’s very good news,” Gold said.
Son sharpness a good sign
This is a great sign heading into a new season.
Son’s standards have been high for a long time now, but, as we saw during the 2022/23 season, Son can have these dips where he’s not at his best.
During that 22/23 season, Son was carrying an injury for most of the campaign, and that did affect his performances, but now, he seems to have stayed healthy through the summer, and he’s determined to take Spurs to the next level.
Son recently said that joining Spurs was the best decision he ever made, and he’ll surely want to win some silverware for the north London club.
Of course, it’s only a pre-season game against lower league opposition, but getting into an early rhythm can be huge in terms of building confidence and hitting the ground running once the Premier League season actually starts.
Don’t be at all surprised if Son ends up having a fantastic season for Spurs, and who knows? Perhaps he could bag a second Golden Boot award this term.
