Ian Ladyman has torn into Everton loanee Neal Maupay after what he did for Marseille in the clash with Angers.
The Frenchman, who left Goodison Park on a loan-to-buy deal in the final days of the summer transfer window, was shown a red card as the two Ligue 1 sides played out a 1-1 draw on Friday (4 October).
Having been quick to praise Cole Palmer for his relaxed nature in Chelsea’s draw with Nottingham Forest, Daily Mail journalist and podcast host Ladyman was quick to slam Maupay admitting “some things don’t change”.
Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast on Monday (7 October, 44:58) he said: “Somebody who hasn’t quite got that presence of mind is our old friend Neal Maupay who we’ve mentioned several times on this pod when he was at Everton and Brentford.
“Two yellow cards in three minutes playing for Marseille at the weekend. He was off pretty rapid. Some things don’t change.”
What happened to Neal Maupay at Marseille after Everton and Goodison Park exit?
As Ladyman suggests, some players just never change and it seems as though Maupay is exactly that sort of character.
Everton fans will be all too familiar with the Frenchman’s antics, both off and on the field and while the club have all but rid themselves of his presence now, he unfortunately does still have some ties to Goodison Park at this stage.
In Iliman Ndiaye, it feels as though Sean Dyche has already managed to find a much more effective forward and a player who does all his talking on the pitch. It is safe to say that the former Marseille man has hit the ground running on Merseyside.
Hopefully, Maupay’s move back to France will be made permanent as soon as possible so that the Toffees can finally begin to move on without having to pay any attention to the striker’s antics across the channel.
In the grand scheme of things, the decision to sign the former Brentford man has to be one of Everton’s worst calls in the last few years.
