Sources: Arsenal to hijack Alvarez deal? Man City stance revealed

Man City will not sanction a deal taking striker Julian Alvarez to Arsenal before the transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.

The 24-year-old is pushing for an Etihad Stadium exit before 30 August and has been linked with the Gunners, Chelsea and La Liga side Atletico Madrid.

It is believed Mikel Arteta is a “big fan” of Alvarez but is set to miss out on his signature, with widespread reports suggesting he is close to a move to Atletico Madrid.

City are not willing to entertain a hijack from Arsenal as the two clubs are likely to be title rivals once again in the 2024-25 campaign.

The Premier League champions won’t negotiate with Arsenal having previously sold Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to the Gunners, only for them to become close challengers for the title.

Alvarez heads to Atletico Madrid as Man City block Arsenal interest

Sources say Guardiola and City chiefs are unwilling to strengthen the London side any further.

Alvarez has pushed for an exit in the off-season after his lack of game time in crunch fixtures for City last term.

They paid River Plate a reported fee of just £14million to land him in January 2022.

He has since won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and a Champions League trophy at the club.

Alvarez, who has lined up as a striker and an attacking midfielder in the absence of Kevin de Bruyne, has hit 36 goals and notched 18 assists in 103 appearances for City.

In other news, Arsenal plot Aaron Ramsdale U-turn.
