Aston Villa are planning to sign a “lethal” attacking replacement for Moussa Diaby following his sale to Al Ittihad, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Unai Emery is scouring Europe to bolster his attacking options.
The sale of Diaby after just one season did surprise Villa, but the financial offer was so big that they couldn’t turn it down.
Sources say that Diaby himself was pushing to make the move happen due to how lucrative it was for him as well.
That has left Villa a little short in the attacking department, and the Premier League side are now looking to reinvest the cash from that sale.
Aston Villa want to strengthen their attacking options
There is concern that if Ollie Watkins was to be injured, Villa would be left short in the attacking department next season.
Diaby made 19 goal contributions in his debut season at Villa Park, which is something that Emery now has to try to replace for next season.
Despite looking to add quality, Villa could be set to lose another attacking midfielder this summer.
In other news, Jhon Duran close to joining Premier League rivals following huge offer.
