Sources: Villarreal's response to Chelsea's Jorgensen bid revealed

Chelsea’s £20million offer to sign Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is expected to be rejected despite both parties pushing for the deal.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Chelsea are unwilling to meet his £40million release clause but remain confident of reaching an agreement.

Enzo Maresca is pushing to get the deal done as he views Jorgensen, 22, as the perfect profile for his team and is lining him up as the first-choice keeper at Stamford Bridge.

The goalkeeper is keen on making the move to Stamford Bridge after receiving assurances over his playing time from the Chelsea boss.

Jorgensen has been at Villarreal since 2017 after joining their youth setup and has featured regularly for Villarreal B.

He made his senior league debut for the club in 2023 and has gone on to establish himself as their first-choice goalkeeper, making 44 appearances.

Last season, he recorded six clean sheets in 36 league games as Villarreal narrowly missed out on European qualification by finishing eighth.

Football Insider revealed on 24 July that Jorgensen is the Blues’ top target this summer despite the goalkeeper having signed a new deal recently.

That new deal saw his contract extended until 2029, but Chelsea are now pushing hard to get a deal over the line, with the player giving the green light.

Maresca is looking to oversee a reshaping of the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge after back-to-back disappointing seasons, with new players needed to adapt to his style.

The club have already landed deals for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tosin Adarabioyo, Renato Veiga, Omari Kellyman, Caleb Wiley and Marc Guiu this summer.
